ICCC Charity and Philanthropy Program - Qs and As
NOTES:
- ICCC will welcome and review your questions, suggestions, expertise, and commitment in any form for refinement and implementation of the project.
- Please circulate the email, Survey and FAQs to your network of contacts in the Indo-Canadian community and to India-Centric/Friendly organizations.
Q. Why should I, as an Indo-Canadian, participate in this Survey?
A. ICCC Theme: “The Power of Collective Generosity.” Every donation dollar counts.
You decide your participation in this “ICCC Survey – Charitable & Philanthropy by Indo-Canadians.”
ICCC’s principal objective is to raise the profile of Indo-Canadians in the larger Canadian mainstream.
Individual: Your individual donations information, when combined with all other donations, will project the rich Indian ethos of “Giving Back to the Community.” Your inclusion in the planned Annual Report, as an individual, regardless of the amount donated, may give you satisfaction in numerous ways (personal, as a member of the united Indo-Canadian community, or the larger society).
Business: Your recognition will enhance community involvement. You may encourage employee participation and set an example for the Matching Donation concept.
Association: Your enhanced community profile, and pride in participation.
India-Friendly/Centric Organization: Promotes your good wishes and appreciation of rich Indian values.
Q. How will ICCC address privacy concerns/issues?
The privacy concerns/issues will be fully respected, as indicated by the donor, in the Annual Report. Only the names of the donors (if allowed) will be mentioned and not the amount.
Q. Is there a list of ICCC Charities?

Q. How much of my donation will be sent to the selected charity?
ICCC will transfer 100% of your donation to your selected charities. ICCC does not keep any amount as administrative expenses.
Q. When will I get the tax receipt for my donation?
Tax receipt for your donations during the current year will be issued by 28th February of the following year.
Q. Does ICCC accumulate my donations over the years?
Yes. Since 2016, ICCC diligently accumulates a community member’s donations, especially for providing an opportunity to become a Life Member of ICCC.
Q. Will my contribution help me get the life membership of ICCC?
Your cumulative financial contribution of $1000 or more will provide you with the option to become an ICCC Life member.
Q. Does ICCC work in collaboration with other Indo-Canadian organizations (regional associations) and individuals?
Yes. Please visit our website: icccottawa.org for more information about our collaborations.
Q. Does ICCC address all causes?
Important: ICCC’s numerous initiatives (COVID-19, Hospitals, Food Banks, Shelters, EKAL Vidyalaya, Kerala Floods, Nepal Earthquake, etc.) to rally community support, drive critical donations, and increase the visibility of the important work everyone is doing has gained community-wide recognition.
Q. ICCC COVID-19 Relief Fund
For COVID-19, ICCC is continuously in liaison with other organizations and individuals and is open to suggestions from all for helping the community.
It has been so inspiring to see how communities have come together in support of struggling healthcare workers to deal with the pandemic. All organizations, including small non-profits, businesses, helpers, etc. during the pandemic are in urgent need of some support.
Q. Why did you select the Ottawa hospitals for donations?
Assistance to Ottawa Hospitals: The front-line health care workers, the backbone of our health and safety system, are under great stress in providing care to the patients. Surge due to the Coronavirus has added a new layer of emergency operations, causing an overwhelming situation for the chain of staff. They need help on multiple fronts – personal protective equipment (e.g., masks, ventilators, etc.), aid to recovered patients to hasten their release and making beds available to the next patients, more cleaning, psychological support, solving childcare issues, etc.
Q. Why did you select food banks for donations?
Assistance to Foodbanks – Ottawa Food Bank, Ottawa Mission & Shepherds of Good Hope
Ottawa Food Bank: provides food for those in dire need at various Ottawa locations.
Shepherds of Good Hope: in upper town, it has been receiving active support for many years from the Indo-Canadian community – Seva Group with ICCC volunteers, Hindu Temple, and many others from the community.
Ottawa Mission: provides food for those in dire need in a central location.
These NGOs desperately need financial assistance to maintain their services to the community they serve. The food they used to get from food outlets has dried up and they must buy almost all the food they serve to their clients – the homeless, deprived and others in the community.
Q. Can individuals and other organizations forward “ICCC COVID-19 Relief Fund” information to their own networks and membership lists?
Yes, ICCC requests that everyone should widely forward the information to their own networks and memberships. An e-mail has already been posted on the Facebook pages of numerous organizations, including ICCC’s various forums and social media accounts.
Q. Will ICCC post COVID-19 initiatives of others on its own website?
Yes, when someone goes to icccottawa.org, one can view:
COVID-19 Information from Other Sources
Q. Can we think of online music/entertainment programs for fundraising, going forward?
Yes. ICCC encourages all creative ideas for COVID-19 Fundraising.
Q. Where can one drop off Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?
All PPE donations can be dropped off at the COVID-19 donation drop off area located on the Riverside Hospital Campus receiving dock (1967 Riverside Dr.) between 7:30 and 15:30, Monday to Friday. PPE of medical/even industrial standards are being accepted gratefully. Please feel free to share this information with your families, friends and communities and help our front-line workers.
Q. How will the Annual Report be developed, and what will be the contents of the Annual Report?
Briefly, the Annual Report will provide information regarding Charity & Philanthropy by Indo-Canadians, in both a tabular form as well as in pictorial depictions which will include donors’ names (optional), charity name, and additional information about the charity.
The scope, methodology and implementation details for the report will follow customary practices followed in preparing such reports.
