The Bhawani Anantaraman Fund is a lasting tribute to Bhawani, Aruna, and Rupa Anantaraman who tragically lost their lives in the bombing of Air India 182 in 1985. Established by Dr. Anant Anantaraman to honour the beloved family he lost, the fund fosters musical talent in young performers through several bursaries and scholarships for deserving students at all levels in Ottawa. It also supports the Bhawani Memorial School in Tamil Nadu, India, providing a high-quality education to very disadvantaged children who would not otherwise have access to education. In both instances, hundreds of children and youth have benefited from the legacy created by Dr. Anantaraman, who as a former chemistry professor and a musician himself, strongly believes in the connection between learning and music.
