Program Overview
Age Friendly Ottawa is a partnership of The Council on Aging of Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, the Centre for Governance of the University of Ottawa and other partners working together through an Ottawa Age Friendly Steering Committee. Our intention is to lead the Age Friendly Ottawa Project over three years (and beyond) using the processes of community engagement and action. This project is based on the World Health Organization Age Friendly Cities Project and on federal, provincial and territorial Age Friendly Communities Canada principles.
The Age Friendly model is being adopted in cities worldwide as a positive and inspiring framework that promotes active and healthy aging. Making cities more age-friendly is one of the most effective policy approaches for responding to demographic aging. … more
About The Council on Aging of Ottawa – A Credible Voice for Seniors
The Council on Aging of Ottawa is a bilingual, volunteer-based charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of seniors living in Ottawa.
Seniors’ concerns and issues are identified and solutions are sought through forums, research projects and partnership networks.
The Council on Aging, through the work of its volunteer Board of Directors, committees and staff:
- Consults with other organizations in the planning and coordination of seniors’ services;
- Advocates for seniors on policy and funding priorities at all levels of government;
- Educates public understanding and awareness of seniors’ issues;
- Invites the community at large to support its work through memberships, volunteering and financial donations.
2012 marks the 37th year of our founding and we continue to be inspired by the dedication of our members, policy makers and advocates working on behalf of seniors in the Ottawa region.
