The Indo-Canadian Community Centre (ICCC) is pleased to inform you, both for your consideration, and for circulation to the members of your organization and all others who may benefit from a new community service initiative:
Fresh Indian Meals Delivery for Seniors – Meals on Wheels (MOW)
This successful collaborative effort with numerous community partners, which started on 10th August 2021, has already attracted many from the Indo-Canadian community. The MOW poster, and ICCC Portal & website: www.icccottawa.org (click here) provide registration details, telephone contacts and additional information about this program. Briefly, program highlights include:
- The service for seniors is presently available through the West Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) in Ottawa west (Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Bells Corners and Dunrobin) area only. Negotiations are progressing with other Community Resource Centres so that seniors in all other areas of Ottawa can also benefit from this Fresh Indian Meals Delivery program.
- Presently, one standard vegetarian meal includes: a Curry dish, vegetable dish, 2 rotis/chapatis, rice and a dessert or fruit. A non-veg item may be available on a later date. Food, served in a microwave safe container, can be heated at the convenience of the recipient senior.
- Cost of each meal is $10.00 including taxes and delivery. A small subsidy may be available from the delivery partner: “Meals on Wheels” organization for low income individuals.
- Fresh Indian Meals will be delivered twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. The delivery frequency will increase gradually depending upon the demand for service. A senior can order single or multiple meals.
- The payment for the meals to WOCRC will be made at the end of each month through a cheque, credit card or e-transfer.
- Only persons who are above the age of 60 years, or disabled persons can be registered for this program.
