ICCC Communique #21 dated February 11, 2021
Purpose: To provide an update on the activities, accomplishments & upcoming events of ICCC.

  1. ICCC Community Celebration (Virtual Event) – 29thJanuary 2021 (10:30-11:30 a.m.) ― Felicitation of Dr. Jagmohan Humar
    The Indo-Canadian Community congratulated Dr. Jagmohan Humar, C.M., Distinguished Research professor, Carleton University on his appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada, one of the highest awards bestowed by the Government of Canada.ICCC’s initiative as well as the kind words & personal sentiments of all speakers to felicitate Dr. Humar were greatly appreciated by over 350 guests, including many VIPs and dignitaries, attending the event from across Canada, USA and India (198 devices logged onto the ZOOM platform).     N.B. ICCC celebrates the accomplishments of the members of the Indo-Canadian Community in Ottawa. We welcome the news and information about the honours and accomplishments of all Indian diaspora in Ottawa, so we may post them on the ICCC Virtual Portal (the Website, Events Calendar, Forums, Social Media, etc.).

    2. ICCC Charity & Philanthropy Program
    ICCC greatly appreciates an emerging trend  donors channelling donations via ICCC for charity & philanthropy to CRA approved charities. Some in the community have also started sharing their donation information, on a strictly confidential basis, with ICCC.

    ‘Giving Back to the Community’ is a cherished value of our rich Indian heritage. The publication of an “Annual Report – Donations by the Indo-Canadian Community of Ottawa” will greatly enhance the community profile in the Ottawa mainstream.

    3. ICCC Youth Program – ICCC Chai and Chat (Virtual Event) – 15th February 2021, 6:00-7:00 PM
    ICCC’s Youth Program will be hosting their first ever ICCC Chai and Chat event on 15th February from 6:00 to 7:00 PM! This will be an open platform to attract all young students and youngsters to come forward and express their love for the community and the rich Indian culture.

    Program (Live Performances, Games, Prizes, Opportunities to meet new people, and lots of fun) and registration process are available on the ICCC website and social media pages.  Please click here to register for the event. The Zoom link will be sent to all registrants on FEBRUARY 14TH, 2021 at 8:00pm. Please contact aanya@icccottawa.org for additional information.

    ICCC seeks community professionals as volunteers to provide guidance/mentorship to university students for its Mentorship Program component of the ICCC Youth Program. Please contact president@iccottawa.org to indicate your area of expertise for implementing this program.

    4. ICCC Seniors Programs:
    ICCC Seniors Buddy Groups: with an objective to ensure seniors’ welfare through regular contact with each other, are now a reality with the formation of 7 groups.

    ICCC Seniors Computer & Social Media classes – 3rd batch of 20 participants is now in progress.

    ICCC Seniors Meals on Wheels: The Survey to assess the demand for Meals on Wheels has, to-date, received responses from over 70 seniors who have expressed their willingness to subscribe to this service. Seniors coordination committee is working on implementation details of this initiative.

    ICCC Seniors Virtual meetings, held every Thursday (2:00-3:30 p.m.) and Friday (10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon), and attended by more than 80 seniors continue attracting newcomers, are open to all seniors of the Indo-Canadian community.

    5. ICCC Virtual Hub – Portal & Website: icccottawa.org
    Presently, this is our Virtual Community Centre  a valuable resource for providing services to the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic – and it incorporates the latest in computer, social media, and internet technologies.

    Additional new information is constantly being added under various headings. ICCC would welcome and greatly appreciate your input and direct postings on various platforms.

    OTHER INFORMATION & ICCC Appeal:
    The Indo-Canadian community is blessed and richly endowed in all walks of life. ICCC values community input and is striving hard to raise the community profile in the Canadian mainstream. Please come forward with your suggestions, join ICCC and support its initiatives to showcase the significant contributions of Indo-Canadians, raise the community profile and together accomplish the Vision“A United Indo-Canadian Community Thriving in The Canadian Mainstream”.
