Bhagwan Gupta did his master’s degree in Chemistry in India. He held a prestigious position in Semi government undertaking oil natural gas commission (ONGC). He got another master’s degree in information science from London University. He lived in London for about four and half year. He dedicated short period of his life for International food information service which was funded by commonwealth organization.
He moved to Canada in the month of November 1969 from London. He moved to Canada because public service commission in Ottawa offered him a job. Since he was well aware of the facilities and better lifestyle of Canada he jumped on this offer. He was offered a job on arrival with Health Canada, and he retired as a head of department.
Right from the beginning he has a passion for volunteering and wanted to serve community in any way he could. He is involved with the Shepherd of Good Hope for the last 28 years and helping financially and physically The Ottawa Food Banks. John Howards Society, United Way, ICCC, India Canada Association, and Sai Baba center of Ottawa. He also helps with grocery, clothing, and essential things to new immigrants especially to the students.
He experienced diverse challenges when he came to Canada including homesickness, cold weather, no friends, no babysitters, and Indian grocery. They used to go to Toronto for getting Indian grocery. First year was very difficult for him.
Bhagwan Gupta wants to give message to new immigrants that always have a positive attitude. He says that he is always available to help others. Mr. Gupta suggests that one must always remain in touch with the community as those who help people this way you will find help for themselves if needed.
