Life Story of Sanjogta Bhandari

Mrs. Sanjogta Bhandari is 77 years old. She pursued her B.A. B.Ed. with Honors in Punjab, in India. She was professionally a high school teacher in India. She landed in Montreal to join her husband with two kids. She has been living in Canada for about 45 years. The reason to move to Canada was to have a better lifestyle for themselves and their kids.

In Montreal, she acquired the seven months course of French language to communicate better with the customers because she had a family business all over Quebec and in different locations in Ontario. She moved from Montreal to Hull and later settled in Ottawa in 2004.

She has been doing voluntary work for 35 years for her community. She is the first lady president of Gurudwara Sahib. She had different positions in Gurudwara Sahib such as Langer In charge, secretary, and vice president. She was honored with distinct trophies and awards. The specific ones are the award by MP Chandra Arya in 2017 for her selfless 30+ years of volunteering for Gurudwara Sahib. In 2018, she was awarded by Council on Ageing for senior’s selfless work.

Currently, she is the president of Sikh Community Services of Ottawa. She was the founding member of this organization in 2003 with ten people, but now they have 180 people in this organization. She proudly admits that her husband played a major role in supporting her desire to serve the community but unfortunately, she lost her husband about 19 years ago. Since her husband was already in Canada, before she moved, she did not really face any challenges and difficulty. She advises to new immigrants that their first aim should be to work hard for their goals.
